Advanced strategies

Strategy 1: Ask follow-up questions

Even with a well-formulated prompt, it is unlikely that the first answer will contain all the information you need. That is why you should always ask follow-up questions.

Examples

  • ‘Clarify point X with a concrete example.’
  • ‘Replace example 3 with a different one.’
  • ‘Use simpler language.’

Strategy 2: Ask the language model for help

Request help from the language model to craft a strong prompt or to ask questions that will lead to a clearer answer.

Examples

  • ‘Instead of giving a direct answer, ask follow-up questions first to check if there are any parts I should specify further.’
  • ‘Ask me a few questions first to get more clarity before you respond.’
  • ‘Instead of answering my question right away, suggest a better prompt and explain why it would be an improvement.’
